Tucked in one of the streets of Centro Historico in Mexico City is a well-known pastry shop/bake shop, Pasteleria Ideal. Almost a century in the business, it is not difficult to see why Mexicans and even foreigners flock to this bakeshop.
Breads and pastries of all shapes, sizes and colors… The choice and supply are endless. The smell of freshly-baked goodies wafting out from the oven would surely lure even a lurker like me.
But I did not come for it.
I went to see the Cake Exhibition in Pasteleria’s second floor.
And my! Was I shocked! The second floor was full of cakes of all sizes, weights, colors, flavors and themes.
35 kg…79 kg… Whoooahhh!!!
I cant help but wonder…
How do you transport it?
How do you slice and eat the top tier when they seem to be taller than you?
How many persons will it take to finish the cake?
For how long?
And when they do, aren’t they almost dying of diabetes then? 🙂
Dropping by to see this cake display delighted me. It is a unique attraction, which is free by the way.
Just because I was going to watch Lucha Libre later that night, I took fancy of this Lucha Libre-themed cake.
In my country, a department store has a slogan “we’ve got it all for you”. As far as cakes are concerned though, Pasteleria Ideal has it all, and more coming…
