November 14, marks the World Diabetes Day. Recognizing the seriousness of the statistics that 1 of 10 persons in this region is diagnosed with diabetes, Landmark Group launched the Beat Diabetes initiative 6 years ago aimed at promoting awareness to the disease.
This year, a series of Beat Diabetes campaign was launched in various GCC countries, Qatar included. Beat Diabetes Walk 2015 being scheduled on a Friday, was a must-attend activity with colleagues.
The walkathon is approximately 1.6 km around the man-made lake in Aspire Park. Blue Beat Diabetes shirts and caps were given to participants (who registered?) and Fitness First had a booth that was swarmed by people, me included! They were giving away freebies! I got myself a water tumbler 🙂 Most importantly, there was a free blood sugar check booth. Worried I was as I am a sweet tooth, I learned there’s room for some more sweets! I am diabetes-free!
At 4:00pm, the lakeside was awashed with blue by participants donning the blue Beat Diabetes shirts. Blue and white balloons were released to the air and the band led the way of the group. The crowd was festive. It was supported by locals, students and some other groups.
I enjoyed looking at the blue and white balloons flying over Aspire Tower. It was beautiful. Hope each one carries a prayer of a diabetes-free nation.
Thank you, Landmark Group for this event. May your cause be achieved and may your tribe increase!
